STUDENT APPLICATION WITHDRAWAL CONSENT IN TERMS OF PROTECTION OF PERSONAL INFORMATION ACT (POPIA) Section 11(3) of POPIA

By submitting this request to the University of South Africa, you acknowledge and agree to the following terms regarding the withdrawal of consent for data processing or application participation:

1. Right to Withdraw Consent

  • You may withdraw consent for the University to process your application data at any time by submitting a written request to the Admissions and Registration Department.
  • Withdrawal of consent does not affect the lawfulness of processing prior to your request for withdrawal.

2. Implications of Withdrawal

  • Before admission decision:
    • Withdrawal will result in immediate termination of your application.
    • No refund of application fees will be issued.
  • After Acceptance / Enrolment:
    • Withdrawal may impact your academic status, National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS), or visa eligibility (for international students).
    • UNISA reserves the right to retain certain data as required by DHET/SAQA Compliance (e.g., anti-fraud records, accreditation compliance).

3. Data Retention & Erasure

  • The University will delete or anonymize your personal data upon withdrawal, except where legally obligated to retain it (e.g., fraud prevention, regulatory compliance).
  • Transcripts, test scores, financial records or other third-party documents may be retained per institutional policy.

4. Third-Party Disclosures

  • If your data was shared with scholarship bodies, government agencies, or partner institutions prior to withdrawal, the University cannot guarantee its retrieval or deletion from those entities.

5. Legal Compliance

  • This process adheres to the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA) No. 4 of 2013 of the Republic of South Africa.
  • The University is not liable for consequences arising from withdrawal (e.g., ineligibility for future applications).

6. No Reinstatement

  • Withdrawn applications cannot be reinstated. A new application and fee will be required for future consideration.

"I understand that withdrawing my consent terminates my application and may have legal or academic consequences. I confirm that I will not hold the University liable for any resulting losses."
