As part of our ongoing commitment to safeguarding your digital identity and ensuring the confidentiality of your academic information, UNISA has enabled and recommends use of the following information security controls to manage secure student access to our digital services.
Multi-factor Authentication (MFA) is an authentication method that adds an extra layer of security to your account. It requires that you, as our student, verify your identity by providing two or more verification factors in order to gain access to student digital services.
In addition to your password, you will now use a second factor, such as text message (SMS), a mobile app (Microsoft Authenticator), or phone call to confirm your identity. This significantly reduces the risk of unauthorized access even if your password is compromised.
Once your account is enabled with MFA, you will be prompted to set up your MFA the next time you log in to your university account.
Setting up MFA is a quick and straightforward process. Refer to this linked guide for step-by-step guidance on how to enable it. We will also provide support through dedicated service desk resources for those who may need assistance.
Benefits include:
Capturing the cell phone number on the UNISA systems is mandatory.
Students must note that the university will use the cell phone number which had been provided by the student and recorded as such on the student information system for various purposes, including:
As a student, you are encouraged to change your password regularly, especially if you suspect that your account has been compromised.

Must contain at least 12 characters
Must contain at least one uppercase letter
Must contain at least one lowercase letter
Must contain at least one number
Must contain at least one special character(!,#,@,$,%,^,etc.)
